What happens when you step away from the security of a familiar career to follow a dream? For Emily Endean, the answer is a journey into photography – and an upcoming book that brings that passion to life.

I met Emily in my adopted hometown of Bournemouth in Dorset, UK, and fell in love with her photographs of the landcapes and seascapes of our beautiful shared home county of Dorset.

I also love stories about people who dare to do things differently. Whether it’s travelling off the beaten track, embracing a new adventure, or finding the courage to pursue a long-held ambition, there’s something inspiring about taking a different road.

Emily’s story is one such journey.

But pursuing a creative dream isn’t always easy when you have bills to pay and the everyday costs of life to contend with. Emily’s solution? Ditch the rat race, move into an old Hymer campervan, and embrace vanlife.

Changing direction in life takes courage. Moving away from an established career as an insurance broker to pursue a passion for photography is a considerable leap, but it’s one that has helped bring Emily to an exciting new chapter.

Her forthcoming photo book, Quiet Coastlines, is the result of following that dream.

And along with her outstanding photographs, Emily shares the story of how photography transformed her own life.

Of course, a book of photographs is about more than the images themselves. Behind every creative project lies a story of inspiration, hard work and determination. In Emily’s case, there’s also the personal journey of choosing to follow her passion and turn it into something tangible – a book she can share with the world.

And that’s what makes this project particularly special. It’s not simply about capturing coastlines; it’s about having the courage to pursue the life you want.

Summary and Links

Quiet Coastlines is a deeply personal photographic journey along the coastlines of England, Scotland and Wales, created over several years following the edge of the land wherever it leads.

For Emily Endean, the coastline is more than a place to photograph. It is where she feels most at home – a place to slow down, breathe, swim, explore and pay attention through photography. Working from the shoreline and from within the ocean itself, she captures fleeting moments of light, weather, movement and stillness, finding beauty in both the wild and the still.

This is not a book about specific destinations or a guide to the British coast. Instead, it is an invitation to see the coastline differently: to notice the small changes in light, the movement of water, the shapes of rocks, the fleeting moments that can disappear within seconds, and the feeling of simply being there.

Alongside the photographs, Emily shares the story of how photography transformed her own life.

Quiet Coastlines is a celebration of the sea, slow travel, curiosity and the act of noticing. A book about returning to the same edge again and again, and discovering that it is never quite the same twice.

Since 2022, I’ve been travelling with my photography work, teaching, and creating while chasing light across coastlines, mountains, and remote landscapes. I help brands tell aspirational but believable lifestyle stories that feel real and human – my clients range from unique stays, tourism boards, adventure gear to everything inbetween. Along the way, I’ve built a passion for education – running immersive photography workshops for mixed genders, alongside empowering, female-focused tours designed to create space for confidence, creativity, and community behind the camera.

Beyond workshops, I offer 1:1 editing sessions and carefully crafted presets for photographers who want to refine their style, improve their workflow, and develop a more intentional approach to editing. Whether you’re just beginning or looking to elevate your work, my aim is to help you create images that feel true to you.

I also speak at photography and outdoor events across the UK and collaborate with leading creative and outdoor brands, producing authentic lifestyle content rooted in storytelling and connection.

Whether waist-deep in the sea or teaching in the mountains, my mission remains the same: to connect people, to each other and to nature, through photography.

“Photography has never just been a hobby or a job – it’s a way of being, a lifestyle. It’s an honour to capture the world as I see it, and it truly feels like my life’s calling.”
