The cover of my latest travel memoir, From B to A: Britain to Albania, is a Bronze Medal WINNER in the Adult category of the Wishing Shelf Best Book Cover Awards.
As an author, you spend months (or years!) agonising over every word inside a book, but readers really do judge a book by its cover. That’s why this award means so much. I loved this cover from the moment I first saw it, and it’s wonderful to know that readers and judges felt the same.
The credit belongs to the incredibly talented team at MiblArt in Ukraine, who transformed my rather muddled collection of photos and ideas into a cover that perfectly captures the spirit of the journey. They have been an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the process – creative, patient, responsive, and endlessly accommodating. If you’re an author looking for cover design, I couldn’t recommend them more highly.
The Wishing Shelf Book Awards are are particularly close to my heart because they also support Blind Children UK, helping to fund accessible books for children with sight loss. It’s heartening to find an award that celebrates creativity while also supporting such a worthwhile cause.

It continues the adventure started with Building The Beast – in which we bought a 24.5-tonne six-wheel ex-army truck blind off the internet to convert into a home-on-wheels fit for an overland expedition to Mongolia. More Manchester Than Mongolia follows our first year on wheels with The Beast, during which coronavirus border closures confined to the back roads of Britain and subjected to the quirks of an expedition truck laughably over-engineered for the task.
It is the ninth humorous travel memoir I’ve published. My previous books follow our life since we quit work, rented out our house, sold most of their possessions, and set out to tour Europe full time with The Pawsome Foursome – our four Cavapoo dogs.
All my books have received multiple 5* reviews. My third book, Dogs ‘n’ Dracula: A Road Trip Through Romania won the Chill With a Book PREMIER Readers’ Award and was a finalist in the Romania Insider Awards for ‘Best Promotion of Romania Abroad.’
Building The Beast won BRONZE in the Adult Non Fiction Category of The Wishing Shelf Book Awards, was awarded a Readers’ Favorite 5* seal, and was a finalist in The Page Turner Book Awards.
