Well. Huge thanks to fellow author Sharon Hayhurst for informing me that my latest book,More Manchester Than Mongolia: An Unexpected Road Trip Through Back Road Britain, has been chosen as a FINALIST in the Adult Non Fiction Category of The Wishing Shelf Book Awards!!!!! I was so busy enjoying my travels that I completely missed it.

I am also thrilled that my friend and fellow author, Don Hughes‘ wonderful book, The Mutt for Me, about saving a dog from death row has also been shortlisted.

If you want an endearing read about one man’s special relationship with a very special dog, you will enjoy Don’s book about how he rescued Barbie, a dog no one wanted, from euthanasia. Don doesn’t sugar coat the difficulties he had wtih Barbie. However, what unfolds is a charming tale of growth and understanding on both sides. I read and enjoyed The Mutt for Me when it first came out: you can read my 5* review HERE.

If you’re looking for your next best read, you can see the full list of 2025 finalists in The Wishing Shelf Adult Non Fiction Category HERE and the full list of Wishing Shelf 2025 finalists HERE.

The winners will be announced on 1st April 2026.

However, for li’l’ ole me to get this far in an international book award is enough. Anything else is purely icing and cherries on top!

About Jacqueline Lambert’s Books

More Manchester Than Mongolia is the second book in my Wayward Truck series, and continues the adventure started with Building The Beast – in which we bought a 24.5-tonne six-wheel ex-army truck blind off the internet to convert into a home-on-wheels fit for an overland expedition to Mongolia. Manchester follows our first year on wheels with The Beast, during which coronavirus border closures confined to the back roads of Britain and subjected to the quirks of an expedition truck laughably over-engineered for the task.

It is the eighth humorous travel memoir I’ve published. My previous books follow our life since we quit work, rented out our house, sold most of their possessions, and set out to tour Europe full time with The Pawsome Foursome – our four Cavapoo dogs.

All my books have received multiple 5* reviews. My third book, Dogs ‘n’ Dracula: A Road Trip Through Romania won the Chill With a Book PREMIER Readers’ Award and was a finalist in the Romania Insider Awards for ‘Best Promotion of Romania Abroad.’

Building The Beast won BRONZE in the Adult Non Fiction Category of The Wishing Shelf Book Awards, was awarded a Readers’ Favorite 5* seal, and was a finalist in The Page Turner Book Awards.

A picture of the book Building The Beast: How (Not) To Build an Overland Camper overlaid with three book awards it has won. The text reads The Comic Memoir of a Crazy Idea: 1. Plan expedition to Mongolia. 2. Buy 24.5-tonne truck blind off the internet, 3. Convert into off grid home. There are two 5* reviews: "Hugely Inspirational" by Julie Jaigh, Amazon Top 1000 reviewer, and "A quixotic twist (on the renovating an old house story)" along with Jacqueline Lambert Author's logo featuring The Beast, a Volvo N10 camper

As with all of my books, More Manchester Than Mongolia is available to purchase as an e book or paperback on Amazon, or you can read it for FREE on Kindle Unlimited.

There is no doubt that recognition in book awards can give some much needed kudos to non celebrity authors like myself. If you are wondering about entering a book award, check out my post on how to select the right awards for your book, how to craft a stunning entry – and how to avoid the many and varied book award scammers out there who are always happy to relieve you of your hard earned cash for no benefit whatsoever!
