Whether you’re a dedicated bibliophile, a writer seeking inspiration, or just love a day or weekend full of author talks and bookish conversations, 2026 is packed with literary festival delights across the UK. From seaside storytelling weekends to grand international book gatherings, there’s something for every kind of reader, writer – and for every season.
Some are genre specific: Crime is very well represented, with Preston in Lancashire planning its inaugrual Crime Fiction Festival in 2026, plus Literary Historical Fiction at Cliveden, Travel Writing in Sherborne, Dorset, and the world’s only festival of biography and memoir in Ayreshire, Scotland, celebrating the work of Ayrshire biographer, Samuel Boswell of Auchileck – in whose home, Auchinleck House, I celebrated my 40th birthday!

- Plan travel & stays early – some literary festivals coincide with peak local tourism.
